Your headshot is often the first thing seen by casting directors, agents and Spotlight contacts, so it needs to feel natural, believable and genuinely representative of you. With over 25 years experience working within the entertainment and publicity industry before moving full-time into photography, I understand the difference between theatrical and commercial casting, visual branding and creating modern actor headshots that feel authentic rather than over-posed.
I have a dedicated guide if you are looking for headshots for an under-16 child actor
Professional actor headshots are about far more than simply having a nice photograph taken. Casting directors, agents and production companies are looking for believable, natural images that reflect personality, casting type and authenticity. Whether you are applying for theatre, television, film, commercial work or drama school auditions, your headshots need to create the right first impression while still looking genuinely like you.
Sessions at Headshots Manchester are designed for actors at every stage of their career, from beginners and drama students through to experienced performers updating their Spotlight portfolio or agency submissions.
Different types of acting work often require different styles of headshots. Theatrical actor headshots usually focus more on emotion, depth, character and casting type, while commercial headshots often feel brighter, warmer and more approachable for advertising, lifestyle and promotional work.
During your session, guidance is given on expression, wardrobe choices and subtle changes in look that help create a range of images suitable for different areas of the industry while still maintaining a natural and believable appearance.
Many actors arrive saying they feel nervous, awkward or uncomfortable in front of the camera, especially if they are not used to professional photoshoots. Sessions are relaxed, professionally guided and designed to help you achieve natural expressions without looking stiff, forced or over-posed.
The focus is always on creating modern actor headshots that feel authentic and industry appropriate while helping performers feel comfortable and confident throughout the shoot. Clear direction is given throughout the session, helping even first-time actors achieve strong, natural-looking images suitable for Spotlight, casting submissions and professional promotion.
Actor headshot sessions are available for adult actors, young performers, child actors, drama students and performers preparing for auditions, agency applications or professional casting opportunities.
Sessions are suitable for:
• Spotlight Headshots
• Agency Submissions
• Drama School Applications
• Commercial Casting
• Theatre Performers
• TV & Film Actors
• Musical Theatre Performers
• Young Actors & Child Performers
Clothing plays an important part in creating successful actor headshots. Simple colours, subtle textures and natural styling usually work best, helping the focus remain on expression, personality and eye contact rather than distracting outfits or fashion trends.
Guidance is always provided before and during the shoot regarding wardrobe choices, colours and selecting looks suitable for both theatrical and commercial casting styles.
Sessions take place at Leigh Photography Studio in Greater Manchester with easy access from Manchester, Bolton, Wigan, Warrington, Liverpool and surrounding areas. The studio offers a relaxed private environment with free parking and flexible appointments available 7 days a week including evenings.
Whether you are updating your Spotlight profile, applying to drama school, contacting agents or simply needing stronger professional headshots, sessions are designed to create natural, modern actor headshots that help performers present themselves confidently within the industry.

I wish I could leave 6 stars! I had an amazing time on my personal branding shoot with Steve Lowrey Photography. He is so personable yet highly professional with a laser focus on getting great results. As a young(ish) female who attended the shoot on my own, I felt 110% safe and respected by Steve. Privacy is considered at all times with a separate dressing and makeup area, and Steve respected my personal boundaries for the shoot making sure I always felt comfortable. Plenty of free parking on site and Steve directed me to the studio with ease. Speaking of the studio - it is huge! There is a wide range of backdrops, environments and props all set up and ready to shoot depending on your desired outcome. Steve is an absolutely great guy who really knows his stuff when it comes to taking a good photo. I really wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone - the results speak for themselves!Posted on Google![]()
