If your child is applying for acting agencies, stage schools, casting opportunities or Spotlight representation, professional headshots are one of the most important investments you can make.
At Headshots Manchester, I create modern, natural child actor headshots for young performers across Manchester, Bolton, Wigan, Warrington, Cheshire and the North West.
The aim is simple — to create relaxed professional headshots that genuinely capture personality, confidence and natural expression while remaining suitable for:
Child actor headshots should feel authentic, approachable and believable rather than overly posed or heavily edited.
Many children — and parents — arrive feeling nervous before a headshot session, especially if it is their first professional photoshoot.
My sessions are designed to feel relaxed, friendly and pressure-free. I spend time chatting and helping young performers settle naturally so expressions feel genuine rather than forced.
As someone with over 25 years experience in the entertainment industry through my previous work running Shout Promotions, I understand the importance of personality, confidence and presentation within the performing arts industry.
This experience helps me create child actor headshots that feel natural, professional and commercially usable for casting and agency submissions.
Casting directors and agencies often look through hundreds of submissions. Strong headshots help create a positive first impression before a child even enters the audition room.
A good child actor headshot should:
Overly staged or heavily edited images can often work against young performers. Casting directors want to see the real child, not an unrealistic version of them.

Sessions are suitable for:
Whether your child is completely new to performing arts or already attending auditions regularly, sessions can be tailored around their age, personality and experience level.
One of the biggest mistakes with child actor headshots is trying to make children look too grown up or overly modelled.
Modern casting headshots work best when they:
I guide sessions carefully to keep expressions relaxed and authentic while still producing polished professional images.
The goal is not to create fashion photographs — it is to create headshots that casting directors and agencies can connect with.
Clothing for child actor headshots should usually remain simple and timeless.
I generally recommend:
Parents are welcome to bring several outfit options to create variety throughout the session.
Before the shoot I am always happy to advise on clothing choices and styles that work well for casting and Spotlight submissions.
Not every child arrives full of confidence — and that is perfectly normal.
My sessions are relaxed and paced naturally to help children feel comfortable rather than overwhelmed. There is no hard sell, no rushed conveyor-belt studio environment and no pressure to perform.
Some children settle immediately while others take a little time, and that is absolutely fine.
Creating a relaxed atmosphere is often the key to producing the strongest natural expressions.
Parents are welcome to stay throughout the session.
My private photography studio is based at Spinners Mill in Leigh, Greater Manchester, easily accessible from:
The studio provides a relaxed private environment ideal for young performers without the distractions of a busy retail studio.
Benefits include:
Parents often choose Headshots Manchester because of the balance between professionalism, experience and a relaxed approach.
Most importantly, sessions are designed to create professional headshots without making children feel uncomfortable or over-directed.
Yes. Sessions are designed specifically with modern acting industry expectations in mind and are suitable for Spotlight profiles, agency submissions and casting websites.
Child Actor Images are professionally edited where required but remain natural. Heavy retouching is avoided as casting directors want accurate, realistic headshots.
Absolutely. Parents are welcome to stay throughout the session. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult in my studio.
Most child actor headshot sessions last between one and two hours depending on outfit changes and the age of the child.
Yes. Sessions are guided throughout in a relaxed way to help expressions and body language feel natural rather than stiff or forced.
If your child needs professional actor headshots for Spotlight, agencies, auditions or casting submissions, I would be happy to discuss your requirements.
Appointments are available 7 days a week including evenings from my Leigh studio.

I wish I could leave 6 stars! I had an amazing time on my personal branding shoot with Steve Lowrey Photography. He is so personable yet highly professional with a laser focus on getting great results. As a young(ish) female who attended the shoot on my own, I felt 110% safe and respected by Steve. Privacy is considered at all times with a separate dressing and makeup area, and Steve respected my personal boundaries for the shoot making sure I always felt comfortable. Plenty of free parking on site and Steve directed me to the studio with ease. Speaking of the studio - it is huge! There is a wide range of backdrops, environments and props all set up and ready to shoot depending on your desired outcome. Steve is an absolutely great guy who really knows his stuff when it comes to taking a good photo. I really wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone - the results speak for themselves!Posted on Google![]()
